The summer season has seen a few advancements to our project that look hopeful. We have not yet heard officially from the DEQ about the first grant application but expect to soon. We have submitted another aplication to the Lake Superior Basin Trust organization for $100,000 to continue the project. The Houghton County Office of Emergency Management is also assisting us with an application to FEMA for funding from a flood prevention program instituted after the severe spring runoff flooding this past spring. I expect activity will increase as the busy summer season wanes and everyone "gets back to business" in the fall. Now would be a good time to send in any donations you can, a record of public interest in the project will serve us well in upcoming funding requests! Summer is a great time to visit the dam site, bring your camera and your fishing poles! My teens report the swimming aint bad either! Please be careful though, there are dangerous spots there and common sense is the first thing you need to bring with you! Cindy
