In the days before Fed-Ex and UPS you could still almost get next day service from Chicago all the way to Manden on the Keweenaw Central. From a turn of the century Ad in my collection.

Hello, I have an small side note for this posting. Galewood is on west side of Chicago on the Milwaukee Road's line to Iowa and NOT on the Milwaukee Road's north line from Chicago to Milwaukee and Upper Michigan. Galewood is three miles west of where the Milwaukee's West Line split from the North Line. Galewood had its own major freight yard for the Milwaukee and there were a number of industries served out of the freight yard. Sincerely, Andy Roth
